Joplin agent for automated note filing and retrieval
Automate note organization and retrieval in Joplin using a custom agent and Python scripts.
Every capture goes through joplin_capture.py and lands in a single INBOX folder with a source and timestamp attached.
joplin_filer.py runs daily and scores each INBOX note against my existing folders. Confident matches are moved into place: a security note goes to the security folder. Low-confidence notes stay in INBOX with the needs-review tag.
- Ensure Joplin is installed and running.
- Set up a REST API connection for Joplin.
- Implement the joplin_capture.py script to handle new note captures.
- Implement the joplin_filer.py script to run daily for organizing notes.
- Configure the agent to read notes via the REST API and file them.
This configuration is for users who prefer Joplin over Obsidian for their 'second brain' and want automated organization. It requires Python scripting and API integration.
This configuration describes a custom agent setup for Joplin, using Python scripts (joplin_capture.py and joplin_filer.py) to automate note capture into an inbox and then intelligently file them into appropriate folders based on confidence scoring.
By processing notes through scripts that attach source/timestamp and then score against existing folders, the system automates the tedious task of manual filing, preventing the 'second brain' from becoming unmanageable.
This is for users who prefer Joplin and are comfortable with scripting and API integration; it's not a plug-and-play solution.
