Predicting EEG model performance from early learning curves
Use early learning curves to predict full-budget validation performance for EEG decoding architectures.
Performance Estimation from Early Knowledge (PEEK) can predict full-budget validation performance using architecture code, training protocol, and early learning curves.
This method reduces the computational cost of evaluating many potential EEG decoding architectures by identifying promising candidates early in the training process.
Using ten observed epochs, PEEK reduced mean absolute error in predicting average validation bAcc from 2.20 to 1.36 percentage points.
The PEEK method leverages early learning curves and training data to predict the final performance of EEG decoding architectures. This allows for efficient selection of promising models, significantly reducing the computational resources needed for full validation.
